Carufel genealogy

Généalogie

The Carufel family descends from Jean Sicard, lord of Carufel and Geneviève Raté. Some of their descendants removed Sicard and kept the land denomination as a surname.

Sicard would be of germanic origin. it would have evolved from Sigi-Hard meaning brave man. Though this name was and is present a little everywhere in France, it was especially spread in southern France from where Jean Sicard emigrated in 1685. Sicard must have been used as a given name because it had a feminine version: Sicarde, for exemple Sicarde de Fénélon.

The origin of Carufel is obscure, it is a land name, a place name. This seigniory can be found on the César-François and Dominique Cassini de Thury's map. There was a time in Quebec where illiteracy was common. Priests and notaries wrote by sound; a lot of names where triturated, tortured or changer, Carufel did not escape those difformities, sometimes written Carifel, Charufel, Caruffel or Carusel.

The Carufel seigniory, in Québec, was located around the nowadays parish of Saint-Justin in Maskinongé county.

The Carufel seigniory, in France, was located in Albigeois in Haut-Languedoc; aroud 500 meters south of Fauch - village of the Tarn department, Albi district, Réalmont canton, at the crossroads of the D13 and D41 roads.

Thanks to M. Roger Sicard de Carufel for his exhaustive work on this family.

An agnostic line is possible between Jean Sicard de Carufel and Ramsès Ier d'Égypte. It was discovered with the help of a collaborator who recognized Jean's great-grand-mother, Claire de Crespon on my website. Here is one of the possible line :

It is also possible to get to Charlemagne, Roman emperor :

It also possible to get to Guillaume Ier le Conquérant, King of Angleterre :

It is also possible to get to Adam and Ève... :
